Competition Period:

1 April – 30 June 2021 (Registration Deadline: 31 March 2021 )

Proposed Entrants:

All primary schools in Hong Kong

Objectives:

To facilitate Hong Kong’s computational thinking education and simulate students’ learning interest in computation thinking through fun coding missions, as well as develop students’ creativity and problem-solving skills.

Categories:

School category and Individual category

 

Guidelines:

  1. Individually complete as many missions as possible in Coding Galaxy
  2. Stars will be awarded upon completion of each mission, with maximum three stars for the shortest route and collection of all gems.

Release of results and Prize Presentation Ceremony:

Eligibility and requirements:

  • Free Enrolment For Coding Galaxy Subscribed School Users
  • All primary schools in Hong Kong, including local and international schools
  • Minimum of 60 students is required for entering the School Category
  • Registered by a school teacher
  • School Category Entrants are welcome to register for both categories

 

Assessing Criteria:

  • Coding Galaxy Challenge
  • Minimum of 60 students is required
  • The top 10 schools with the highest points will win the “Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 Inter-School Participation Award”
  • The champion school will win the “Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 (Inter-School) – First Prize”
  • The 1st runner-up school will win the “Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 (Inter-School) – Second Prize”
  • The 2nd runner-up school will win the “Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 (Inter-School) – Third Prize”

 

Awards and Prizes:

  • The top 10 schools will receive an award certificate
  • Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 (Inter-School) – First Prize
    1. First Place Award Certificate
    2. 12-month FREE subscription to Coding Galaxy for the whole school
  • Coding Galaxy Challenge 2021 (Inter-School) – Second Prize
    1. Second Place Award Certificate
    2. 20% discount on any Coding Galaxy subscriptions

Individual Category

Eligibility and requirements:

  • Free enrolment for existing School or Individual Users
  • All primary students in Hong Kong, including local and international schools
  • Individual entrants may be nominated by their school or register individually
    School account users have to be nominated by the school

 

Assessing Criteria:

  • Upon completion of the missions, the greatest number of stars accumulated
  • the shortest cumulative time
  • The top 10 entrants will be the winners

Awards and Prizes:

  • Coding Galaxy Best Computation Thinking Award
    1. Award Certificate
    2. A set of creative STEM model
    3. EdFun course vouchers

  • This form is applicable to schools only
  • Must be registered by a school teacher (School Category and Individual Category)
  • Entrants from the School Category will be enrolled in the Individual Category automatically
  • Schools that have less than 60 entrants may nominate students to join Individual Category

A special offer of $4,900, including 100 accounts (valid until 31 August 2021) or $2980, including 60 accounts (valid until 31 August 2021) is available for schools that have not subscribed to Coding Galaxy this school year.

FAQ

Can the school entrants be formed by different levels of students?

Yes. The requirement is a minimum of 60 students. Coding Galaxy is suitable for Primary 1 – 6 students.

Are there any software or hardware requirements?

Entrants should have a valid Coding Galaxy account and download the Coding Galaxy application (iOS and Android supported) on their smartphones or tablets.

 

If our school does not have any Coding Galaxy accounts, how do we register?

School Users:
Schools may purchase a special package of HK$4,900 (admin fee + account fee) with 100 accounts or HK$2,980 (admin fee + account fee) with 60 accounts, valid until 31 August 2021. Please contact Ms Quinn Liu or our partners Coding101 OR Modern Educational Research Society Limited.

Do entrants have to start the missions exactly on 1 April 2021?

Entrants shall gain as many stars as they can during the assessed period, 1 April – 30 June 2021. All stars earned within this period will be counted.
